John Kuhn is a photographic artist from Middletown Maryland.
His interest in photography began with the purchase of his first
35mm camera in 1975. That camera was a Yashica
rangefinder, which he still owns to this date. That camera
sees little action these days but it will always be a favorite
because it was his first "real" camera. Today his
equipment includes almost entirely Canon equipment with a Canon
A1 and F1 as well as several Canon
auto focus outfits. John prefers to use the manual Canon
F1 over the auto everything cameras because of the complete
creative control he has with that camera. He also has a medium
format Twin Lens Reflex outfit
dedicated to Black & White landscapes. Although John prefers
and enjoys traditional film photography he has full digital
capability with a Canon EOS 300D outfit
and has recently added the Canon 40D SLR
outfit with several new lenses. John also has a collection of
antique cameras as well as several other fun
35mm cameras that he occasionally uses.
Primarily a self-taught photographer he has acquired an extensive
library of photography books to which he frequently refers.
John has been a member of the Frederick Camera Clique since
1985 and credits the many guest lecturers for most of his formal
education. John says "It's like taking a 24 year long photography
course." Although John will take pictures of almost anything,
he specializes in nautical scenes, landscapes, and fine art
nature photography and has amassed a collection of several thousand
images.
John's work has been exhibited locally at the Washington County
Museum of Fine Arts, Frederick Community College, Hood College,
Mount Saint Mary's College, Weinberg Center for the Arts, and
the Delaplaine Visual Arts Center just to name a few. John enjoys
entering his work in photography competitions and learns from
the feedback he receives. As a result he has won numerous awards
in photographic competitions. In addition, his work can be seen
in both private and corporate collections as well as J.
Cooper Gallery in Shepherdstown West Virginia. John
has also been locally and nationally published.
